Caitlin Langelier

We are proud to introduce you to Caitlin Langelier!

Caitlin has worked with Industrial Brothers for several years, and is currently a Story Editor and Writer on our hit preschool series Dino Ranch, with Season III is in production now. Caitlin is an integral part of the team, known for her great sense of humour (she’s a comedian!), top-notch karaoke skillz, and trivia prowess.

Her writing was recently recognized at the 2023 GLAAD Media Awards, in which episode ‘Adopt-a-Saurus Rex’ took home the award for ‘Outstanding Children’s Programming’.

The GLAAD Awards honour media for fair, accurate and inclusive representations of LGBTQ+ people and issues.  We are so proud of Caitlin, and the entire Dino crew for their work on this beautiful episode – well done!

Let’s get to know her a bit better below, and you can check out some of her title cards for the episodes she’s written above.

What inspired you to work in children’s writing?
I think writing for kids forces you to say what you mean – there’s no option to dodge sincerity with open-ended questions, irony, or bitterness. Pulling off sincerity effectively can be a challenge, but I don’t see the point in doing anything that doesn’t have true meaning to me.

Do you have a tip or piece of advice for aspiring writers?

I’m sure you’ve heard it all, so here is a step-by-step guide to how to get into the Writer’s Guild of Canada (something I didn’t know for 5 years):
1. Get someone to agree to let you write a script on a WGC production (tell them you know how to get a WGC#)
2. Fill out your Writers Agreement contract and leave the WGC# blank
3. Email this executed agreement to the WGC and request a membership form
4. Fill out and send your form to the WGC and they’ll send you a WGC number
5. Terminate your prior, number-less Agreement, and fill it out for a second time, with your WGC# included! Congrats! You’re in the guild!

What is your favourite thing about what you do?
I want to say something about the creative process, my amazing team, or how this work heals my inner child every day… but what always springs to mind when I think of this question is a tweet I saw from one of our viewers saying his son watched our gay t-rex dads episode and excitedly said “Papa! They have two Daddies too!” You really can’t beat that feeling.????

Are there any creative disciplines that you do in your spare time?

I am proud to say that once I finish writing for the day, I do NOTHING that could be considered “productive” ! I need my spare time for all the important television I have to watch!

What is a ‘fun fact’ about you, a hobby, or special skill that most people don’t know?

Besides television, most of my life is dedicated to being the best Cool Gay Aunt I can be, and carrying on the family tradition of owning too many pets. Also, I can make a mean hot chocolate (the trick is to use more chocolate than you’re supposed to).

Keep being your awesome self, Caitlin!

We love having you on Team IB, and can’t wait to see what amazing things you do next.

Make sure to watch the full episode of ‘Adopt-a-saurus Rex’ , available on Disney Junior and Disney+ !
